Infi Stream guide

How to join, talk, share NVDA speech and run an event on Infi Stream. Every step works with a screen reader.

Joining

  • Open the room from the Infi Stream page, from the Join on Infi Stream button on an event page, or from a reminder link.
  • Sign in with your InfiArtt account. If the room allows guests, you can also listen without an account by typing a name.
  • Press Join the room. The browser asks to use your microphone; choose Allow.
  • If there's a waiting room, you're told you're waiting. Keep the page open; you join automatically when a host opens the room.
  • If the room is linked to an event, your attendance is recorded automatically for the certificate.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Ctrl+D turns the microphone on or off, Ctrl+E the camera.
  • Ctrl+Y raises or lowers your hand, Ctrl+I reads out who's speaking.
  • Alt+1 to Alt+5 go to the Room, People, Chat, Host and Settings tabs. In the tab list, the left and right arrows also switch tabs.
  • The microphone and camera never turn on by themselves. After a host mutes you or makes you a listener, they stay off even when you're allowed to speak again; turn them on yourself when you're ready.

Sound and microphone test

  • Use earphones. Without them, other people's voices from your speakers get back into your microphone as echo.
  • In Audio and announcement settings, press Test microphone: it records 5 seconds, plays it back, then tells you whether your voice sounds good, quiet or wasn't detected.
  • Choose your microphone and speakers there. Echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain are off by default so voices sound natural.
  • Under Volume per person you can make each person quieter or louder, on your device only.

Talking and raising your hand

  • In a Stage room, listeners press Raise hand. You hear your place in the queue and are told when a host lets you speak.
  • Press the Microphone button to turn your microphone on or off. The button shows as pressed while it's on.
  • Check Push to talk if you want the microphone on only while you hold the button.
  • Press Who's speaking? to hear who is talking. In settings you can also have the speaker's name read out each time it changes.
  • If a host sets a timer for you, you're told when you have 1 minute left and when time is up.

Sharing NVDA speech or your screen

  1. Use Chrome or Edge on Windows. Computer audio can't be shared from phones, Firefox or Safari yet.
  2. Close anything private first: everything your computer plays and shows is sent.
  3. Press Share computer audio (sound only) or Share screen and audio.
  4. In the Chrome window that opens, choose the Entire screen tab, then pick the screen.
  5. Make sure Share system audio is checked, then press Share. If the audio didn't come along, Infi Stream tells you and you can try again.
  6. Press Stop sharing when you're done. If the connection drops, sharing stops and needs to be started again.

Only game and NVDA audio (audio device)

  • Browsers can only share all of your computer's sound, not single apps. To share only game and NVDA audio, use a free virtual audio cable such as VB-Cable.
  • In Windows, open Settings, System, Sound, Volume mixer, then send the game's output to that cable.
  • In NVDA, open the NVDA menu, Preferences, Settings, the Audio category, then choose that cable as the output device.
  • So you can still hear both, open the cable's recording device properties in Windows sound settings and check "Listen to this device".
  • In Infi Stream press Share from an audio device, choose the cable, then Start sharing this device. This also works in Firefox.

Chat

  • Type in the Chat section. New messages are read out with a sound; you can turn the reading off in settings.
  • Choose Hosts only (private) to ask only the hosts.
  • Messages sent before you joined or while you were disconnected can still be read.
  • In a breakout group, the chat is separate from the main room.

Polls and breakout rooms

  • When a host starts a poll, the question is read out. Choose an answer in the Poll section and press Send my answer; you can change it until the poll closes.
  • Results are read out to everyone when the poll closes.
  • If a host splits people into groups, you're moved automatically and told your group number. Everyone in a group can talk.
  • When group time is over, everyone returns to the main room automatically.

If the connection drops

  • Short glitches recover on their own. Longer drops: Infi Stream rejoins automatically, straight away once you're back online.
  • After rejoining, your microphone is off and a raised hand is lowered. Messages you missed are loaded and counted.
  • If you open the room in another tab or on your phone, the old connection is closed and you're told.

For hosts

  • Create rooms from the Infi Stream page (needs the Manage Infi Stream permission). In Room settings add hosts and speakers, choose a linked event and save the YouTube stream key.
  • In the people list: let someone speak, make them a listener, mute them or ask them to unmute, message privately, remove, or ban. Nobody's microphone can be turned on remotely.
  • For everyone: mute everyone, lower all hands, lock the room and the waiting room.
  • Speaking timer: choose the person and the length. They're told when 1 minute is left and when time is up.
  • YouTube live and recording are in Live and recording. Everyone is told when they start and stop, and a notice stays visible.
  • Live and recording run on the server: if a host's internet drops, the stream keeps going while people are still in the room.
  • After the event: open the Attendance report, download recordings, or make a podcast episode.
  • For regular events, use Duplicate the room in Room settings.
  • Live and recording each have one button: press once to start, again to stop. End the session for everyone stops everything and removes everyone.
  • The main host can make someone a co-host from the people list or Room settings. Co-hosts have host controls except ending the session, breakout rooms, managing co-hosts and Room settings; they also can't mute or remove other hosts.
  • When the Waiting room is on, the Host tab lists who's waiting. Admit or deny people one by one, or Admit everyone. Admitted people don't wait again during that session; turning the Waiting room off lets everyone in.
